The legal arm of the National Association of Manufacturers has launched a public relations campaign to discredit lawsuits and news reporting that "undermine and weaken manufacturing in the United States."
The Manufacturers' Accountability Project of the Manufacturers' Center for Legal Action primarily consists of a new website targeting investigations brought by "trial lawyers, public officials, deep-pocketed foundations and other activists" against manufacturers, according to a statement. So far the campaign consists of a website and Twitter account.
The goal is to "unearth how legally dubious tactics have been used to support politically motivated and unwarranted investigations that jeopardize all manufacturers' ability to continue growing and providing jobs to millions of Americans," MCLA said.
"It has become clear that these activist plaintiffs' attorneys, sympathetic academics and agenda-driven media outlets are distorting the use of tort litigation to advance their narratives with the ultimate objective of undermining manufacturers and the engine of the American economy," said Linda Kelly, NAM senior vice president and general counsel and head of the MCLA.
The campaign's website is mfgaccountabilityproject.org.
